30 May How to Optimize Inbound Delivery Management in SAP: the Speed App Case
Reducing time and steps in inbound goods handling is now a priority for all companies focused on logistics efficiency. In this article, we present Speed App, the solution we developed with SAP BTP to streamline warehouse processes and increase productivity.
What is inbound delivery and why it slows down operations
Inbound delivery, meaning the management of incoming goods, is one of the most delicate and complex phases in logistics. In many companies using SAP, this process requires dozens of repetitive manual operations. Each incoming delivery involves activities such as scanning, label printing, batch verification, and updating data in the SAP system.
All these actions are often performed using mobile devices or handheld scanners with poorly designed interfaces, which slow down operators and increase the risk of errors. The time required to handle a single unit can reach up to four minutes, with more than sixty clicks needed to complete the process.
Our solution: Speed App with SAP BTP
To address this issue, we developed Speed App, a custom application that simplifies every phase of inbound delivery management. Thanks to SAP Business Technology Platform, we were able to build a fully SAP-integrated app that is easy to use and accessible from any device, both mobile and desktop.
With Speed App, operators can perform all activities — from HU and batch scanning, label printing, weight adjustments, deconsolidation, and putaway — in a more direct and intuitive way. The interface is designed to minimize steps and ensure smooth execution.
The result? A process that previously required up to 60 clicks and nearly four minutes can now be completed in under one minute with just five clicks.
In addition, we eliminated non-value-added activities such as consolidation, making the workflow leaner, more traceable, and better aligned with real operational needs on the shop floor.
Why SAP BTP is the key to efficiency
SAP BTP is not just a supporting technology, but a true innovation platform. It enables us to develop low-code applications tailored to real business processes, fully integrated with SAP ECC or S/4HANA, and capable of interacting with external systems such as scanning devices, printers, and third-party software.
Using BTP allowed us to build Speed App quickly, with a robust, scalable structure fully focused on efficiency. Every feature is designed to simplify operational work and eliminate unnecessary complexity.
Results achieved
With the implementation of Speed App, the operational time required to process inbound deliveries has been reduced by 75%. Manual errors have significantly decreased, and processes are now fully traceable in SAP. Operators can focus on truly strategic tasks, without delays or unnecessary steps.
